RECONDITIONING

We worked in the shop last week due to the cold weather. We repainted the trash cans and divot boxes. We are going to work on ball washers next.

18 FAIRWAY BUNKER

We repaired the bunker edge, sodded, and seeded the area next to 18 fairway bunker. This will greatly improve our finishing hole.  We will remove the wood edging once the ground has firmed and we are sure the edge will hold up. 

LIGHTS

The lights are done. The guys did a nice job. We will hang a few more items next week and we will be ready for the holidays. I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving with your friends and families. I will be smoking our turkey early tomorrow morning.

SOD

The great life sod crew came over from Topeka this week to install sod on the course. Mike and Ken did a nice job. Our crew helped with the project as well. We will water the sod over the weekend and it should be ready for winter.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

We are preparing the clubhouse Christmas lights for installation. We will check all of the bulbs in the shop and we will start installing them next week.  'Tis the season.  I am excited to see how the lights look on the clubhouse.

SEEDING TEE BOXES

We are seeding tees this week.  We waited for the cold weather to set in to seed our tees.  We were so late in the fall seeding window that we chose to dormant seed.  The goal is to not have the seed germinate now, rather we want the seed to germinate this spring when the soil temperatures and conditions are right for germination.  If the seed germinates now it will have to deal with the difficult winter winds and freezing temperatures and will not likely survive.  The blanket you see is a seed protection blanket.  It keeps the seed protected from winds blowing it away.  It will warm the soil quickly in the spring and give the seed a good jump start when the time is right for growth.  We will be seeding all of the thin spots on tees and we will completely renovate the championship tees on 1, 15, 16, 13, and 17.

DRAINAGE

We are working on a drainage repair on the driving range. The pipe is not evacuating the water so we are digging up sections to try to find the clog. We are getting close to the street so we stopped to call for locates to make sure we dig safely. Locates will be done by Tuesday.

MOWING NATIVES

In an effort to minimize the weeds in our native areas we will mow the entire native areas this fall and winter. There are 60 acres of native grass so it will take some time. We will make a herbicide application next spring that will round out our weed control program. You should see the benefits next summer with less weeds.

SOD

We are preparing for a sod delivery.  We have prepared these areas by removing the thin turf and making a clean edge to lay the new sod against.  We will finish grading these areas right before the new sod arrives.  We appreciate our members not driving on these areas until the sod has had time to root and establish.  I will attempt to rope all of these ares to keep cart traffic off until the time is right.  In areas such as the above image on 13 we will plant ornamental grasses here to manage traffic.
